Emily Kleiner Obituary
Emily Bradley Meek Kleiner
AGE: 91 • Plainfield
Emily passed on July 19, 2015 at the Hunterdon Care Center in Flemington, NJ. She lived on the Dunellen side of Plainfield for 65 years before needing more care at Brandywine and the Hunterdon Care Center.
Born on October 4, 1923 to Paul D. Meek and Louise Norpell Meek in Columbus, Ohio. She was predeceased by her sisters, Frances Rowe and Marjorie Meek and survived by her brother, James Meek of Ohio.
She was predeceased by Walter Kleiner, her devoted husband of 70 years, in the spring. She leaves behind her children, Paula and (Steve) Vuckovich, Timothy and (Diane) Kleiner, Dinana and (Jay) Scocchio, and Kim Kleiner; grandchildren, Kathy Andreeff, Alex Vuckovich, Jamie Fredericks, Shannon Albrecht, Justin Scocchio, Joshua Kleiner, and Gabriel Kleiner; and her four great-grandchildren.
She attended University High School, Ohio State and Pratt Institute. She majored in art and did many sketches before mainly turning to arts and crafts. She used her talents as a longtime Sunday School Teacher at the Dunellen Methodist Church. She was an active member of the church, helping with dinners and Vacation Bible School, and being Flower Chairman for many years. She eventually became the aide in Busy Bee Nursery School for 13 years.
She was a wonderful wife and mother. She was active in the Jefferson School PTA and a Girl Scout leader for both daughters. She was happiest in her kitchen and outdoors. She welcomed everyone into her home. Her "backdoor always open" policy brought many friends to that door where they were always offered homemade pie and coffee. Emily and Walter were wonderful gardeners and filled their four freezers with the fruits of their labor and blueberries from Promised Land, Pennsylvania. Avid campers for many years, they camped their way across America to the family in California at least 15 times.
She was a friend to all and will be missed by all her friends and family.
The Memorial Service for Emily will be held at the Dunellen United Methodist Church, 150 Dunellen Avenue, Dunellen on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 3:00 P.M., preceded by a time to visit with the family at 2:00 P.M. All are welcome to join with the family for refreshments in the R.E. Bldg. after the service.
Donations may be made to the Dunellen United Methodist Church or to Hunterdon Hospice.
