Pre-deceased by his parents, Charles and Margaret; brother, Charles J., and nephew, David Stankovits; he is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Jean Glynn Stankovits; son, Joseph, daughter-in-law, Sandra, and his grandchildren, Evan, Emily and Jordan "Jojo" Stankovits, of Tega Cay, South Carolina; daughter and beloved "best buddy," Janine, of North Brunswick; and his son, Andrew, of New York City. Ernie also leaves behind many loving family and friends, including his brother, Steven and his wife Diane, of Milltown; nephew, Steven, of East Brunswick; sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Paul Chabok, of Mystic Island; niece, Laura Trembly, her husband Edward, and their daughters, Samantha and Shelby Trembly of Howell; as well as lifelong friends, Rile, Bano, Jack and Masty. His family and friends will deeply miss him.

Funeral services will be 9:45 AM Thursday from Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick followed by a 10:30 AM Mass at St. Mary of Mt. Virgin Church, New Brunswick. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery in New Brunswick. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Wednesday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, Ernie would have liked contributions made to the Arc of Middlesex County, 219 Black Horse Lane, North Brunswick, NJ 08902 to help repair damage to the Raritan Center Career Center incurred from Superstorm Sandy.

So sorry for your loss. I spent some of my childhood living on Oxford St. and remember the fun we had with the whole Oxford St. "gang". My brother, Tony Barberis, told me of Ernie's passing. May God comfort your family at this time and in the days to come.

Ernie will be greatly missed. When we were eight years old, he was the first love of my life, though he did not reciprocate my feelings. It was so great to reconnect with him when I worked at The Arc of Middlesex County. A devoted family man and a very thoughtful and funny man. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Such a tragic loss!
