Reatha Godwin Obituary

Reatha Trumble Godwin 1925-2011 Reatha Trumble ("Rickie") Godwin passed away at her home in San Rafael, California, on June 27, 2011, after a courageous battle with lymphoma. Rickie was born on August 20, 1925, in Roseburg, OR, and grew up in Walla Walla, WA. She met Richard P. ("Dick") Godwin in New York City and they married in 1947. Rickie and Dick and their four children settled in San Rafael in 1961 when Dick joined Bechtel Corporation. Over the next 25 years, Rickie served on numerous PTAs, lent her hand to a number of causes, discovered her passion as an artist and earned her amateur pilot's license. After Dick served two years as President Reagan's Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, they returned to California in 1988 and moved full time into their ranch in Healdsburg. Together they began producing their family's award-winning wines and were associate producers of several successful Broadway productions. In 2002, they retired to Villa Marin in San Rafael. Dick passed away in 2005. Rickie is survived by her four children, Richard Jeffrey Godwin of Rockville, MD, Lauren Godwin DeConde of Novato, CA, Peggy Godwin Bettini of San Rafael, CA, and Kent Francis Godwin of Santa Rosa, CA; her daughters- and sons-in-law, Gigi Godwin, Ken DeConde, Brian Bettini and Lori Godwin; as well as nine grandchildren (Christopher, Ross, Hillary, Jennifer, Sara, Alex, Andrew, Ashley and Katie). Private services will be held. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Plan USA www.planusa.org, a cause Rickie supported for 45 years.

I knew Rickie professionally, and it was always a pleasure to work with her. She was a woman that one could look up to as a wonderful example of poise and professionalism.

My sincere condolences to the family.
