Guy Engelhard Millard

Guy Engelhard Millard, a distinguished veteran, economist, business consultant, and longtime civic leader died on October 23, 2017. He was 91 years old.

Born on November 5, 1925 in Chicago, he was the son of Gerhardt A. Millard and Marie E. Engelhard. Mr. Millard was the eighth great-grandson of John Millard an early Plymouth Colony settler and the fourth great-grandson of Eleazer Millard who fought for the American cause in Saratoga County, New York.

Mr. Millard was assigned to ASTP, the Army Special Training Program and was a Decorated Veteran of WWII serving at the Battle of the Bulge.

He graduated from the University of Chicago with a PHB degree. He studied economics under Milton Friedman and received his MBA, graduating as valedictorian from the University of Chicago-Booth School in 1950. He was a member of international Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.

He was personally recruited by General Robert Wood Johnson to join Johnson & Johnson. Mr. Millard would later become the Chairman of the Public Policy Board for all the Johnson & Johnson Companies.

Mr. Millard became recognized as one of the early advocates of Corporate Affairs and Government Relations. He lectured nationally and consulted to Fortune 500 companies as Senior Vice President of Public Affairs Counselors in New York.

Later in his career, Mr. Millard served as County Administrator of Somerset County, N.J. He was a member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee of NACO, the National Association of County Organizations and President of the National Association of County Administrators.

Mr. Millard served as Chairman of the United Way of Somerset County, sat on the Board of the Somerset Hospital and was a Founding Director of The Raritan Valley Community College, and was a Shriner for 67 years.

Nancy McFadden Millard, of Greenville, S.C., his wife of 72 years, and six children Guy, Douglas, Craig, Keith, Diane, and Ralph survive him. He also was blessed with a son-in-law, G. Raymond Stringer; and daughter-in-laws Rebecca, Denise, Shelly, Diane, and Michele Millard. He was additionally blessed with ten grandchildren, and seventeen great-grand children.

The Millard's raised their family in Bridgewater, N.J., and in retirement lived on the shores of Lake Harris in Leesburg, Florida.

Mr. Millard will receive military funeral honors at a private memorial service and celebration of life at the Florida National Cemetery.
