James Gallagher Obituary

James J. Gallagher

AGE: 84 • Port Reading

James J. Gallagher, 84, of the Port Reading section of Woodbridge, passed away on Monday, July 28th at Care One at the Highlands in Edison.

Born in the Bronx, New York, James was a longtime resident of Port Reading. He was a proud member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War and was later employed by the NY Times as a stereotyper where he was a member of the 30 year Club. He was a Third Degree Knight at the Fr. Carey Council Knights of Columbus in Carteret, a member of the NY Stereotypers Union and also enjoyed rooting for the NY Mets.

James was predeceased by his parents, James L. and Mary A. Gallagher, a son, Daniel Gallagher and three sisters, Doris Walling, Elizabeth Bell and Joan Frazee. Surviving is his wife Patricia of 54 years, four children, James M. Gallagher of Port Reading, Mary Ballance and her husband Mark of Port Reading, Michael J. Gallagher and his wife Suzanne of Vero Beach, FL and Jeanine Orth and her husband Derek of Long Branch. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Roche and Theresa Call along with eight grandchildren, Melissa, Samantha, Shannon, Kylie, Michael, Kathryn, Kaelin and Kelsey as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will begin at 9:00am on Friday, August 1st from the CHUBENKO FUNERAL HOME, 625 Port Reading Avenue, Port Reading followed by a 9:30am Mass of Resurrection at St. Joseph R.C. Church, Carteret. Entombment will follow at Cloverleaf Memorial Park in Woodbridge.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31st from 5pm to 9pm at the funeral home.
