James Witanek Obituary

James A. Witanek

AGE: 85 • Carteret

James A Witanek, 85, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at home. He was born in West Hazelton, PA and lived in Jersey City for seven years and in Carteret since 1967.

James was a US Navy veteran serving during the Korean War as a Sonar Operator. Prior to his retirement in 1995, James worked as a special investigator for NJ Bell Telephone in Jersey City for 40 years. While as an investigator he uncovered a slave operation during his time with NJ Bell. Mr. Witanek was a member of the speak out committee of Carteret community which helped stop the building of the incinerator in Carteret. He was a member of the Nite Seniors of Carteret and a 4 year trustee, also a member of the Carteret American Legion and a former member of the Carteret Knights of Columbus and the. James was an avid country music and had a large collection of country music. He was also a toy car enthusiast. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and was the keeper of the household and will be missed by all.

Mr. Witanek is predeceased by his son Daniel who died in 2014. He is survived by his wife Loretta D. (nee Kenney) Witanek of 60 years, two sons: Bob Witanek and his wife Susan Colby and James Witanek, a brother Stanley Witanek, two sisters: Kathleen Witanek and Monica Sibley. He is also survived by three grandchildren: James, Robert and Ethan.

Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 5:00pm Rumpf Funeral Home, 21 Locust Street, Carteret, NJ 07008. Visitation will also be on Saturday from 2-6pm at the funeral home.
