AGE: 69 • North Brunswick

Joseph J. Chyb, born December 28, 1944, died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at the McCarrick Care Center in Somerset. He was 69 years of age. Joe was born in Westerhof, Germany. Prior to his birth, Joe's family was placed into a temporary Displaced Persons camp in Wolterdingen, Germany due to forced migration from Poland during World War II. Joe came to the United States in 1950 with his family, grew up in Dunellen and graduated from Middlesex County Vocational School in 1963. Joe was a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in New Brunswick, and a longtime resident of North Brunswick where he served as a Republican County Committeeman. Joe served in the U.S. Army from September 27, 1965 to July 17, 1967, included a tour in Viet Nam. Joe attained the rank of Specialist Four and was awarded the Viet Nam Service Medal, the Viet Nam Campaign Medal with Device 60, the National Defense Service Medal; and in 2006, the State of New Jersey Viet Nam 25th Anniversary Commemorative Medal and the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal.

Joe worked for over 40 years at Ron Pak Inc. in South Plainfield as a machinist supervisor. He was a member of the American Legion Post 119 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5479 in Dunellen. A lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and an accomplished sportsman, Joe won championships at the Winchester Gun Club in trap and skeet shooting, and at the Dunellen Pool League. He enjoyed working in his garden, cooking, deep sea fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Joe was loved and cherished by so many and will be missed dearly.

Joe was predeceased by his parents, Stefan and Stefania Zbruk Chyb; his sisters, Janina Kulinski and Alexandra Syslo; his brother, Marian Chyb; nephew, Edward Chyb and sister-in-law, E. Joyce Zimmerman. Joe is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Zimmerman Chyb; sons, George A. Callan, Jr. and Joseph Q. Chyb; granddaughter, Alyssa Paige Callan of North Brunswick, and the family dog Mac. He is also survived by his brother, Eugene Chyb and his wife Maria Chyb of Phillipsburg; sisters and brothers-in-law, Claire Johnson, Claire and Joseph L. Zimmerman and Barbara Zimmerman; nieces and nephews, Henry Kulinski, Barbara Hanshaw, Andrew Kulinski, John Chyb, Mark Syslo, Paul Syslo, Erica Milkovitz, Tracy Moran, Diane Malaney, Stephen Dzuro, Debbie Ostroski, Mary Beth Golla, Joseph R. Zimmerman, Beth Anne Woodhouse, Barbara Ellen Richmond, William Robertson and Dr. Jessie Wilt.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Peter the Apostle Church in New Brunswick on Friday, June 27 at 10 A.M. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery in New Brunswick. Family and friends may visit on Thursday, June 26 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street, Somerset, NJ 08873. Though I haven`t seen Joe in many years, I will always remember him as a gentleman who never had a bad word to say about anybody.
We were on the same skeet/trap team at the Winchester Gun Club, and we shared many laughs together.
My deepest condolences on his passing.

Dear Mary and Family
We are so shocked and saddened to hear of Joe's passing. He and you have always been there for our sister Dotty and her husband Roger and all of our family with your love and caring and support. My last memory of Joe is at St.Peter's hospital giving his love and support and advice to us as we said goodbye to my sister Dorothy. He and you are so special to us. You are in our thoughts and prayers,- such a wonderful husband and father and friend.
