Lester H. "Sonny" Soper passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017 at his home in the Colonia section of Woodbridge Township. He was 80 years old.

Born in Elizabeth, he has resided in Colonia for the past 57 years.

Mr. Soper was an Operating Engineer for Paving Materials & Construction Co. in Roselle for 43 years, retiring in 1996.

He was a communicant of Saint Cecelia's Catholic Church in Iselin and was a member of Local #825 of the Operating Engineers Union in Springfield.

Sonny loved to fish and was a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Emma Weiss Soper; and two sisters, Evelyn Wormouth and Barbara Zeveney.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years Patricia Lieb Soper; a daughter, Paige Johnson, and her husband, Rodney, of Vacaville, CA; three sons Craig Soper of Washington, NJ, Dean Soper of Colonia and Rance Soper and his wife, Lisa, of Colonia; a sister, Golria Bindewald, of Columbus, NJ; ten grandchildren, Brooke, Justin, Samantha, Dean, Jake, Monique, Michaela, Tyler, Rance and Jackie; and three great-grandchildren, Kaelena, Kaydence and Titus.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, August 14, 2017 at 9:15 a.m. from Costello-Koyen Funeral Home (www.costello-koyen.com), 399 Avenel Street, Avenel. A Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:00 a.m. at St. Cecelia's Catholic Church, Iselin. Interment will be in Saint Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
