Lewis Addison Obituary

Lewis Earnest Addison

Palm City, FL - Age 92, of Palm City, FL passed away on October 31, 2020. Born in Barrington, NJ in 1928, he grew up in nearby Audubon, NJ. Lewis graduated from Trenton State Teacher's College (now The College of New Jersey), with a master's degree in Administration and also completed post-graduate level work in Student Personal Services at Columbia University. Lewis served for three years in the U.S. Army, primarily stationed in Germany. He met his beloved wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Heyeck while at Trenton State and they were married in 1952, just prior to his overseas Army assignment. Upon his discharge from the Army, Lewis and Betty moved to Irvington, NJ where he began a 35-year career with the Irvington school system, working as a history teacher, guidance counselor, and administrator of governmental programs. In 1960, Lewis and Betty moved to Millington, NJ where he cultivated a passion for gardening and was very proud of his landscaping work. After retiring, they relocated to Toms River, NJ. A few years after his beloved Betty's passing in 2006, Lew relocated to Palm City, FL with his dear friend Janet Marvin.

Lewis was an avid swimmer and served as a board member of the Somerset Hills YMCA. He was active in the Morristown County Chaplain's Council and was a volunteer at Morristown Memorial Hospital and Paul Kimball Medical Center. He was also a long-term active member of the Presbyterian Church of Sterling, NJ and the Presbyterian Church of Toms River, NJ.

Lewis was the son of the late Earl and Jennie Addison of Audubon, and brother of the late Raymond and Stanley Addison. He was the husband of Elizabeth (Betty) for 54 years. He is survived by four nieces: Pamela Addison, Dianne Perkins, Kathleen Morkavich and Patricia Cangiano; and four nephews: Raymond Addison, Bruce Cowan, Robert Cowan and William Cowan.

A private memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Toms River. Lewis's ashes will be spread in the memorial garden at the church, where Betty's were also spread.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association are appreciated.

Mr Addison was my history teacher at Florence Ave School in Irvington in early 1960´s. He was THE best! To this day I remember the battle plan for the battle of Quebec. I spoke of him as I toured the plains of Abraham last spring.
Brought back many fond memories of Mr Addison and the love of history I have to this day.

I thought you would enjoy this memory. My condolences to the family. You´ve lost a gem.

Mr. Addison was my History teacher at Florence Ave. School. I am now 72 years old and still remember him as an excellent role model and dedicated teacher. That is the mark he left on students like me. There were many things that I did not know about him until reading this obituary. He will be missed and the world is a better place having him in it.

Uncle Lew was a Wonderful Man. He was kind and always wanting to help people. He loved to talk to everyone. He would start up a conversation and would end up being friends afterwards. I truly miss our daily phone calls and our hugs we gave before the Covid. RIP my Beloved
