Mary Virginia Mason Thackara, 78, of S. Burlington, Mallett's Bay, VT and Sanibel, FL, formerly Red Bank, NJ, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, in Ft. Myers, FL, after a brief illness. Born Nov. 24, 1934 to Adelaide M. Mason and Park C. Mason, she grew up in Shrewsbury, NJ, attended Shrewsbury Grammar School, Rumson Fair-Haven High School, graduating from The Masters School, Dobbs Ferry, NY. She attended Hollins College, Roanoke, VA. On Dec. 1, 1956, she married, and began what would be the happiest 56 years of her life, as a devoted wife, and loving mother. She was an active parent at Rumson Country Day School. She ran Country Kitchen for many years at St. George's By-The-River's Canterbury Fair. She was a member of Seabright Beach Club, as well as Rumson Country Club, playing golf for many years there, and remained a non-resident member after moving to VT in 1990. She loved to garden, and happily tended her flowers and vegetables all summer. It was always a family affair to join her in the kitchen, for the constant flow of guests and family to "Camp Ingelside" as her mother, and grandmother before her.

From 1979, she enjoyed many years at South Seas Plantation, as well as their recent Sanibel home, sharing it with family and friends who visited often. Walking the beach and shelling was a favorite pastime.

Each of her five grandchildren brought "Gammy" years of endless joy, laughter, and great pride, and a year ago, to her delight, her first great-grandchild arrived.

She leaves the love of her life, and husband, Walter M. (Pat) Thackara; daughter, Pamela T. McCoy, Navesink; and son, Charles (Chip) H. Thackara and his wife, Maribeth, Colchester, VT. She is survived by grandchildren, Andrew McCoy and wife, Jillian, Monmouth Beach; Brett McCoy and fiancé, Danielle Ribacoff, Bayside, NY; Carter McCoy and fiancé, Julia Diaco, Rumson; Emily Louise and Mason James Thackara, Colchester, VT; and great-grandson, Joel McCoy Diaco, Rumson. She also leaves cousin, Richard McKay, Tampa, FL.

Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 14 at St. George's By-The River Episcopal Church, 7 Lincoln Avenue, Rumson. In lieu of flowers, donations to (www.amyloidosis.org) or St. George's By-The-River Episcopal Church, Rumson, NJ.
