MATTHEW THOMAS CAUGHEY
AGE: 17
SPRING LAKE HEIGHTS
Matthew Thomas Caughey, 17, of Spring Lake Heights, died tragically on Friday, Oct. 23, 2009. Matt was a senior at Manasquan High School. Matt was well loved and will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. He was a happy, fun-loving teenager, who loved life, family and friends very much. Matt was an accomplished golfer and a valuable team member of the Manasquan High School Varsity Golf Team for four years. He was also a member of MHS Academy of Finance, which led to an internship at the New York Stock Exchange with the Griswold Company in New York City. Matt was also a caddy at Spring Lake Golf Club since the age of 13.
Matt was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Thomas and Francis McBride; his paternal grandparents, Robert and Maureen Caughey; his cousins, Bobby Beatty and William Beattie; his uncle, Thomas J. McBride; and his aunt, Joan McBride Strohmenger. Matt is survived by his loving family; mother, Kathleen McBride Caughey; father, Peter T. Caughey; his beloved sister, Megan M. Caughey; grandmother, Jane Caughey; and great-aunt, Thelma Walraven. Matt was a cherished nephew to Elaine McBride, Robert F. Caughey, Carol Digiacomo, Francie and Joel Hurwit, Patty and Dick Burrus, Robert Beattie, and Charles Beattie. Matt shared memorable times with his many, beloved cousins, Steven and Stacy Strohmenger, Thomas and Rachel Strohmenger, Bailey and Chris Anglin, Robert and Connelly Caughey, Rose and John Beattie, Kelli and Christina Digiacomo, Joan Marie and Ivy Hurwit, and Carly, Justin and Bridget Burrus; and his best friend, Connor Burrus. Matt made a lasting impression on everyone who met him and his family and friends will savor the many cherished memories we have of him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28 at St. Mark's R.C. Church, 215 Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, kindly make a donation in Matthew's memory to the Tom McBride Golf Classic/Scholarship Fund, 409 Church St., Spring Lake, NJ 07762. Thomas J. McBride was Matthew's uncle who tragically passed away in February 2009. Arrangements are under the direction of the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall. TO the caughey family and friends,
my heart really goes out to you during this rough time. tonight's service was beautiful and you can tell from the crowded room and wet eyes that you did a great job in raising matt and making him such a fun, loving, and likable kid to everyone. He was the best and HILARIOUS! Oh his laugh is something i defintely wont forget! Everybody who matt met was touched by him, im sure humorously! I know that i'll never forget matt because he leaves such a lasting impression on not just me, but everyone else who knew him. He always made his presence known. I miss him so much already and i know from losing an immediate family member (my dad in a car accident) that its so hard at first, but then you realize he's okay and it will start to get back into your routine and the swing of things soon. just know that matt will be missed so much, but we'll all see him again soon.
