Maureen Mannion Obituary

Maureen Elizabeth Conroy Mannion

AGE: 79 • Far Hills

Maureen Elizabeth Conroy Mannion, 79, of Far Hills died peacefully on Thursday morning, September 29, 2016 at Fellowship Village Health Center in Basking Ridge.

She was born in Morristown on July 28, 1937, a daughter of the late James and Catherine Pitman Conroy. She was raised on a farm on Larger Crossroads in Bedminster, lived in Peapack-Gladstone for more than 24 years, and lived in Far Hills for the past 16 years. Maureen was a graduate of Bernards High School, Bernardsville Class of 1956 and continued to enjoy working on the reunion committee for over 60 years.

Mrs. Mannion was a well known child care provider for much of her life, having taken care of over 60 children in the Somerset Hills community and was especially known for her ability to care for seven sets of twins. She will be sorely missed by all of these adoring children which now range from age 15 to 35. Her love of children aspired dreams of becoming a pediatric nurse. She also enjoyed working for both Epstein's Department Store in Morristown and the United States Golf Association in Far Hills.

Maureen had a love for professional golf, especially watching her favorite golfer, Phil Mickelson. She was an avid reader and longtime supporter of the Peapack-Gladstone Library. She enjoyed eating out at local restaurants, going on bus trips to local theater, and especially loved her day trips to Spring Lake and Long Beach Island.

She was predeceased by her former husband, Colman Mannion; a brother, James G. Conroy; and two sisters, Carolyn A. Bird and Jean V. Meys.

Mrs. Mannion is survived by her adoring children, Trish Mannion-Smith and her husband, Byron, of Bedminster, Christina Mannion of Gladstone, Patrick E. Mannion and his wife, Heather, of Bridgewater, and Kevin C. Mannion and his wife, Mary Pat, of Gladstone; 7 cherished grandchildren, Jordan and Courtney Smith, Brady and Colby Mannion, Caitlyn Kneafsey, Michael and Kelly Mannion; a loving sister, JoAnn Potts of Bedminster and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

A celebration of her life will be held at St. Elizabeth Roman Catholic Church, 34 Peapack Road, Far Hills on Wednesday, October 5 at 10:30am. Visitation for family and friends will take place at Layton Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Bedminster on Tuesday, October 4 from 5 - 8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to The Friends of the Peapack-Gladstone Library, P.O. Box 369, Peapack, NJ 07977.
