Olgierd Wasilewski Obituary

Olgierd Wasilewski

Bon Vivant, lover of life, patriarch and traveler, Olgierd Wasilewski (Olek) passed away peacefully at Physician's Regional in Naples, on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, on his 49th wedding anniversary. His loving, devoted wife Magda and daughter, Nina Bichot were at his side, with daughter, Kasia Corbo present through modern technology. After fighting many bouts of pneumonia, pulmonary fibrosis and finally pancreatic cancer, his final days were filled with whisperings of love and reflections on a well-lived past. Born January 30, 1932 in Krakow, Poland, Olek spent his childhood in Puck. He earned his Masters of Chemical Engineering at the Polytechnic of Gdansk, where he also participated in BimBom, an avant garde theatre group. His travels with them afforded him an escape to America, where he later earned numerous patents and recognition for his work, including the Napim Technical Achievement award for printing inks.

Olek's insatiable appetite for life took him to Europe, the Far East and the Caribbean. He was a generous spirit who enjoyed all things exceptional: food, wine, art, music, dance, skiing, vistas, historical stories and conversation. He worked his entire life on bettering - his house, his mind, his garden, and his salmon recipes, never being satisfied with 'just enough'.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:30pm on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Naples, FL. His ashes will be buried in the spring in Doylestown, PA. He ate heartily at the banquet called Life. Memorial contributions may be made at www.shikanyfuneralhome.com
