Patrick O'Neill Obituary

Patrick J. O'Neill

AGE: 81 • Point Pleasant Beach

Patrick J. O'Neill, 81, of Point Pleasant Beach, died on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, at Tallwoods Care Center in Bayville. He was born and raised in Belfast, Ireland, immigrated to the United States to Point Pleasant Beach in 1969 and lived there until his passing. In 1971, he brought his wife and children over from Ireland and proudly became a United States citizen in 1975. He was the Owner and Operator of A-1 Bicycles in Point Pleasant Beach for over 41 years. He opened his first bicycle shop in Spring Lake and shortly thereafter, relocated the business permanently to Point Pleasant Beach where his children still run the business. Pat O'Neill was a familiar face throughout the community, always quick with a smile and humorous tale of his life and upbringing. He was looked up to by many as a mentor and friend for sharing the obstacles he'd overcome and for helping others to do the same. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. "Patty O" will be greatly missed by family, friends and the entire community. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 35 years, Catherine G. (McGrogan) O'Neill in 1992 and by his granddaughter, Moriah in 2012. He is survived by his three sons, Brian of Forked River, Jerry and his wife, Kerri of Stroudsburg, PA and Patrick Jr. and his wife, Melissa of Point Pleasant; his daughters, Juliana Warren and her husband, Robert Warren of Pomona Park, FL and Jacqueline O'Neill of Forked River; two grandchildren, Sean and Brian; three great-grandchildren, Calleigh, Nevaeh and Zoe. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. & 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave., Point Pleasant Beach. Interment is private. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society.
