Robert P. Cohn

AGE: 95 • Monroe, CT.

Robert P. Cohn, age 95, of Monroe, CT., passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at his home. Mr. Cohn was born in New Brunswick, NJ., a son of the late Barrett and Matilda Cohn, and graduated from Lawson General Hospital as a surgical technician. He served honorably in the Army Medical Corps with the 502nd M.H.S.P. in World War II where he saw action in the Philipines, Asia-Pacific, European and African Middle East theaters as a Sergeant. Robert was a lifetime member of Temple Anshe Emeth in New Brunswick, NJ. He served on the committee for the establishment of the New Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged. After retiring from their dry cleaning and tailoring business, Robert and his wife Frances volunteered for several years for Meals on Wheels at The Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center. They were recipients of the 1992 Robert Wood Johnson Volunteers of the Year Award. In their honor the hospital created the "Robert & Frances Cohn Award", given each year to a volunteer who demonstrates the ideals they exemplified. Robert is survived by his loving wife, Frances (Tuckerman) Cohn, They were happily married for 65 years. Robert is also survived by his cherished daughters, Helene Cohn and Marilyn Banach, his son-in-law Henry Banach, and his beloved grandchildren, Jackie Banach, Dr. David Banach and his wife Emily. Services will take place on Thursday October 6, 2011 (TODAY) at 1:00 PM directly at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge, NJ. Memorial gifts may be made to Temple Anshe Emeth, the Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center, or to Visiting Nurses Association of Connecticut. (www.greensfuneralhome.com)

My heart goes out to you at this time and in the days ahead. Robert and Frances were customers of mine. I Loved to see them. Robert cared so much about his wife. You could see the love he had for her. I admired their love for each other. I was blessed to have know him for only a few years. He will be greatly missed.

Frances, May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.
