Robert Fyne Obituary
AGE: 78 • Fords
Robert James Fyne, 78, a longtime resident of Fords, passed away in the comfort of home on December 15, surrounded by love. Born in New York City, Robert grew up in Elizabeth. Robert was an English professor at Kean University in Union for 48 years, and influenced many students with his Russian Literature course taught on location in Moscow and Petersburg.
Robert is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jo-Ann Dorio, their marriage an ecstatic adventure, and his only daughter, Vanessa Budd, her husband Howard Budd and grandchildren, Stephanie, Shannon, Remington, Howard, and Brandi, Also his sister Ruth Partazana of Toms River and her loving family and his many nieces and nephews, his mother-in-law, Vera Dorio of Clark, and the rest of the Dorio family.
A Funeral Service will be at Krowicki Gorny Memorial Home, 211 Westfield Ave., Clark on Saturday at 10AM. Entombment will follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 and 6-9. For the complete obituary, please visit www.krowickigorny.com.

I was fortunate enough to encounter Mr. Fyne twice in my academic career. Once in Hillside at junior high where he taught Geography before his PhD and Kean days and again at Kean in American Lit. His 8th grade class inspired my interest in the budding space program - NASA - that sparked my trip to Space Camp for one week in Huntsville Ala. An unforgetable experience.
At Kean his one on one orals at the end of the semester re: assigned reading was a very rewarding experience. I read everything but he was very suspicious ! Probably because of my 8th grade antics !
Wish I got to know him better.

Dr. Fyne was one of the best professors I encountered through college and grad school. He taught me the basics of journalism and I enjoyed four classes with him. He would often write an obscure name on the board, ask us who it was....and when no one knew, he'd simply say, "He was very famous" and make us research the person.
After about two classes, I knew what he was up to, so when he'd mention a name and the class was befuddled, he'd point to me and and say, "Mr. F?" and I'd respond, "He's very famous!" Dr. Fyne would reply, "Exactly!" The class never caught on. RIP.
