Thomas E. Berkery

AGE: 82 ? Kendall Park

Thomas E. Berkery, 82, born in New York City, long-time resident of Kendall Park and husband of Lorelei M. Berkery passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1946, was awarded the WWII Victory Medal in 1947, received promotion to Staff Sergeant, and was called back to serve in the Korean War. Before his retirement, he was employed as a civil engineer for the JCPenney Company. A communicant of St. Augustine of Canterbury Church, he volunteered as the 7th-8th grade girl's basketball coach for many years.

Surviving are Lorelei M. Berkery, wife of 57 years; sons and daughters in law, Thomas G. and Karen of Grosse Pointe, MI; George G. and Pam of Kendall Park; Martin G. and Lisa S. of Lancaster, PA; daughters, Geralyn C. Berkery of Cranbury; Lisa G. Berkery of Ocean; and Gayle G. Berkery of New Hope, PA; and 5 grandchildren, Drew, Ryan, Meghan, Gina, and Julie.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Feb. 8 from 7-9 pm at M.J. Murphy Funeral Home, 616 Ridge Road at New Road, Monmouth Junction. A Mass of Christian burial will be held 10 am on Wednesday, Feb. 9 at St. Augustine of Canterbury Church, Franklin Park. Memorial donations may be made in Thomas' memory to: Boys Town, PO Box 145, Boys Town, NE 68010 or St. Jude's Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148.

George, I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad. I enjoyed seeing him here at the Senior Center, and also remember him well from St. A's. I know how it feels to lose a Dad...you and your family are in my prayers...
