Thomas Paul Korshalla

AGE: 82 • Larksville, PA

Thomas Paul Korshalla, 82, of Larksville passed away on Wednesday at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Larksville on Jan. 9, 1932. He was the son of the late Andrew & Anna Hudak Korshalla. He was a graduate of Larksville High School, a graduate of Wilkes College & received his Master's Degree in Education from Newark State College. He served in the U.S Air Force and attained the rank of staff sergeant before pursuing his degrees in education. He was employed as a teacher & principal in the Old Bridge Twp. School District (NJ), until his retirement 25 years ago. He was active with the American Legion & enjoyed hunting and fishing as a member of the Harvey's Lake Rod & Gun Club.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Ciak. Surviving are daughters Patricia Korshalla & her partner Ken Diakantonis, Paula Bertagna & her husband Dave, son, Thomas Korshalla & his wife Monica, brother, Andrew Korshalla & his wife JoAnne, along with numerous nieces & nephews.

A blessing service with military honors will be held on Friday at 3 pm at the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St., Larksville. Family & friends may call on Friday from 1 to 3 & 6 to 8 pm.

I never had a father, but Mr. Korshalla was a great influence on my life. Summer vacations in the mountains near Harvey's Lake were some of the best times of my life. His career as an educator had an unending effect on my life.

Tom Korshalla was my 6th and 7th grade teacher in Old Bridge in the early 1960's. I remember him as a wonderful teacher. He took those of us on the school newspaper staff to McGuires' Air Force Base on year - great fun. I remember the little skits (acting) he had us do and first thing every morning we did the Jumble from the newspaper. A TV for the World Series always appeared in our classroom at that time of year. He was the best. I am saddened by the news . May your good memories of him sustain you at this time.

I remember quite well his brother Andrew Korshalla as my 5th grade teacher in Miller School and as my principal in Willis school in 7th grade and later as the superintendent of schools in Old Bridge.
