Woodis Booraem Obituary

Woodis M. Booraem

June 10, 1921 -May 20, 2021

Woodis M. Booraem transitioned peacefully from this life at her residence at Reformed Church Home, just 3 short weeks before her 100th birthday.

Woodis was predeceased by her parents, Elizabeth and Raymond D. Booraem, her brothers Raymond Jr., and Warren Booraem, and her sister Janet Fairweather. She leaves behind her five beloved nieces,

Susan Karytko (Edward), Christine Orlando (Mark), Elizabeth "Beth" Booraem, Jamie Swain, and Laurie Conger, and many grand-nieces and nephews, and their children.

"Woody", as she was known to her friends and family, led a storied life! She lived her entire life in South River, graduating from South River High School in 1938. In her youth, she attended the Washington

School for Secretaries in New York City. Woody worked at E.I. Dupont for 13 years as well as working for many years at, and finally retiring from, The First National Bank of South River (PNC).

In her spare time, she was the South River Historian, taking great pride in the fact that she was a direct descendant of the founding fathers of South River, NJ. Woody was also one of the Founding Members and a Trustee of the South River Historical and Preservation Society. She and Warren were a font of knowledge regarding all of the families and the homes they lived in from the earliest times. Their impeccable memories of by-gone eras and the people in South River were a great source of information for the Historical Society.

Woody was also a stellar pianist, and shared her talents as the pianist and organist for Corpus Christi Church, as well as being a long-time member and pianist with the Imperial Music Center Chorus and

Orchestra. For her family, it was a great joy to be treated to Woody's impromptu "concerts" at home!

Woody loved to travel and took international trips to Cuba, Ireland and Poland. She also took great pride in her fashion sense, oftentimes purchasing Avant Garde clothing for her nieces whom she doted on,

and who will miss her terribly. Woody was truly ahead of her time in many ways!

Services are private and will be held at the convenience of her family, under the direction of Rezem Funeral Home, 457 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, NJ 08816.

Donations in her name can be made to the South River Historical and Preservation Society

To the family of Woodis Booraem:
Please accept my condolences on your loss. May she rest in peace.

Our sincere sympathy to the family of Woodis. A lovely lady that we knew for 50 years. Woodis sponsored us and introduced us to the Imperial Music Center in 1970. The Imperial Music Center is around the corner from our home. We loved hearing her play at The Imperial Music Center Concerts and, at Corpus Christi Church. We are still members and Raymond is Vice President of The Imperial Music Center. Woodis will be missed by all.
A Memorial donation will be made in Woodis Booraem's name to Corpus Christi RC Church Organ Fund.
Sincerely,
Nina & Raymond Maest-Imperial Music Center Members
