POINT PLEASANT — Former Point Pleasant resident and local dancing "star," Beau Robert Shertzer, 71, passed away peacefully in Hospice Care, Thursday October 22, in Winderemere, Fla. He is pre-deceased by his entire immediate Family and his partner of 40 years, Dr. Laird Ward.
Beau and his family, his Father, former PPHS Football Coach Bob Shertzer, his wife Helen and younger brother, Bobby, moved to Point Pleasant in the late 1950's and became part of the fabric of the community right away.
A most talented dancer, Beau performed on stage and television throughout the Region during his elementary and junior high years. He was a member of the chorus and performed in most every "play" and social event in Town. He was associated with the PPHS Band as a show manager and announcer for band performances and he graduated from PPHS with the Class of 1964. He then attended Marshall University.
Beau served his Country during the Viet Nam War as a medic and received the Bronze Star for heroism; he graduated from Marshall University and joined the VA Hospital System in Washington, DC. He went on to become affiliated with a major Hospital System in Philadelphia, from which he eventually retired and moved to Florida to care for his parents and brother.
Shertzer never lost his love for dance and joined with his brother to perform at both Walt Disney World and Universal Studios in Florida as a dancer and performed in local clubs as a singer. He was known to be a consummate host and a generous philanthropist . Most recently, Beau recruited friends from the PPHS Classes of '63 and '64 for a party at his home in order to raise money to fund an Athletic Scholarship to honor his Dad, Coach Robert Shertzer which is awarded by the PPHS Alumni Association.
Funeral services will be private and arrangements have not been released at this time. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the Coach Bob Shertzer Scholarship Fund in care of the PPHS Alumni Association.

When I lived in P.P., Beau gave me dancing lessons in my basement...what a riot that was! Of course, we sang in the choir with Mr. Head for years and took a few classes together. When I was in the 7th grade, I had never had a boy wink at ME...THEN THERE CAME BEAU! I started keeping track on my tennis shoes and he thought it was funny. I'm just finding out about his passing now (12/19/23) and a flood of fun memories have come to me. At 75, I started to take dance again, so this week when I put on my ballroom shoes, I will think of our dear beau and the fun he instilled in us. Peace to all his family and friendsl. The pain is gone and now you can rest in peace to watch over the rest of us doing our best to support each other. I didn't have enough time at PPHS to know you as well so I guess I missed out on knowing a great person.
