APPLE GROVE — Loretta Mae Hughes, 78, of Apple Grove, went home to be with her Lord with her loving husband and children at her side, on April 28, 2017, at Pleasant Valley Hospital. She was born June 30, 1938, in Cabell County, a daughter to the late Otho and Anna Lee (Hover) Birchfield. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ashton Baptist Church, in Ashton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Patty Annette Hughes, and son, Wade Hughes; and one brother, Charles Birchfield.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Jesse Hughes of Apple Grove; two sons, Alvin Ray (Terrie) Hughes and Kerry (Karen) Hughes, both of Sylvana, Ga.; six grandchildren and five great grandchildrren.
Also surviving are brothers, Carl Birchfield of Point Pleasant, Don (Helen) Birchfield of Gallipolis Ferry, Dale Birchfield of Gallipolis Ferry and Billy (Deloris) Birchfield of Gallipolis Ferry; sisters, Shirley Sue (Henry) Gibbs of Gallipolis, Ohio, Joyce Edmonds of Glenwood and Martha and (Roger) Wroten of Glenwood, Patricia Thompson of Ashton, and Carolyn McCoy of Apple Grove.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Deal Funeral Home in Point Pleasant, with Rev. Ronnie Long officiating. Burial will be in the Balls Chapel Cemetery, in Ashton. Friends may visit the family from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, at the funeral home prior to the service. Please visit dealfh.com to send condolences to the family.
