Robert Astary Obituary

DALLAS — Robert W. Astary, 69, of Dallas, died Oct. 18, 2021, at his residence. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Michael and Dorothy Cochran Astary and was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School.

Robert was a Corrections Officer with SCI Dallas. While at SCI Dallas he was a captain and was the crisis trainer before his retirement.

Rob loved to travel and see the world. He made friends wherever he went. That world included seeing a lot of things from the back of his horse. In fact, that is how he met his love, Sharon. Some of his other favorite activities included ballroom dancing and taking his Aussie out as a therapy dog.

Surviving are his wife of 20 years, the former Sharon Yalick; daughters, Carrie Hoover, of Bloomsburg, and Lindsey Charneski and her husband Brian, of Pikes Creek; grandson, C.J. Charneski; sister, Roberta Troy and her husband Bruce.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, at The Richard H. Disque Funeral Home Inc., 2940 Memorial Highway, Dallas, PA 18612, with The Rev. James Pall officiating. Interment will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Online condolences can be sent to Disquefuneralhome.com.

Robert and me worked together at Dallas assigned to B-block. We made a good team along with our other partner Dave. We had many good times working together. Robert was a true professional and a pleasure to be around. I was sad to hear of his passing. Please accept my condolences, during this difficult time. Rest In Peace, Bob.

Robert was a patient. As his hygienist, I looked forward to our visits. Even though Robert had a tough road for a long time, you would never know it. He spoke with love of his wife and theirs travels and his horses. Despite setbacks and turns in the road he continued to look forward to his next adventure. He was a kind, lovely man who inspired me and I am sure many others. There are those who cross your path, though even for the briefest moments, and leave a lifelong impact. God bless you and keep you Robert, as well as your love Sharon, until you meet again.
