Ann Downey Dowling

1946 - 2026

Ann Downey Dowling of Rock Hall, MD passed away on February 10, 2026. She was 79.

She was born on December 10,1946 in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of the late Joseph Strong Downey Sr. and Rebecca Parsons Downey.

She was a graduate of Rock Hall High School with the class of 1965 and went on to study at the Baltimore Business College. On March 15, 1969, she married her husband of 56 years, Larry Dowling, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chestertown.

She worked as a secretary for Hogan's Agency before becoming the manager and owner of Downey's Restaurant, in Chestertown, for over 25 years.

When she wasn't working at the restaurant, Ann enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She also loved to cook and spend time with her grandchildren. She was active with many local causes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Ricky Downey (1983), and two grandsons, Brady Kuechler (2010) and Daniel Swartz (2016).

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children: James Dowling (Laurie), Jodi Swartz, Betsy Deckelman (Bill), Laura Barry (Jason), and Sam Dowling (Kate); grandchildren: Molly Dowling, Kathryn Micken (Matt), Suzanne Dowling, Jake Hickman (Hailey), Sam Hickman (Kaylene), Cora, Abigail, and Grant Barry, Colby Dowling (Dana), Macie Cannan, and Ava and Presley Dowling; great-grandchildren: Brooke and Allison Fithian, Addie, Alden, and Ollie Micken, Tatum and Grady Milburn, Austin and Keagan Kuechler, Mason Dowling, Lincoln Hickman, and Rhett Hickman; great-great-grandchild, Weston Fithian; and her brother, Joseph Downey (Millie). The family would also like to send a special thank you to her in-home caregivers.
