David Bright Obituary
Dr. David William Bright, 54, of Worton, MD, passed away unexpectedly at his home on February 13, 2025.
Dr. Bright was a graduate of George Washington University Medical School, where he distinguished himself by graduating with honors, a moment of immense pride for his parents, William T. and Thelma B. Bright. Their joy was palpable as they watched their son receive his medical degree, a testament to his dedication and intellectual prowess. Following his impressive academic achievement, Dr. Bright became a board-certified internal medicine physician. He served as a professor of medicine and dedicated 25 years to his practice at Mercy Hospital in Baltimore. Before pursuing medicine, he worked at Upper Shore Mental Health and Kent Center, and he was also a DJ for WCTR and a Grasonville radio station.
Notably, Dr. Bright made history as the youngest Public Information Officer in Maryland, assuming the role for the Kent County Sheriff's Office at the remarkable age of 20 in 1990. He held this position until 1994, setting a precedent for young professionals in public service. Throughout his career, he also served as a paramedic and driver for the Kent Rescue Squad and was an active member of the Kent Amateur Radio Society.
Dr. Bright's passion for ham radios was a legacy from his father, William T. Bright, a former First Sergeant in the Maryland State Police. This shared interest fostered a deep bond between father and son, and Dr. Bright continued to nurture this hobby throughout his life, becoming a talented tinkerer with a particular affinity for radios and electronics.
An avid weather enthusiast, Dr. Bright often tracked and analyzed meteorological patterns with great interest. His fascination with weather complemented his involvement in amateur radio, allowing him to combine these interests in practical ways. Additionally, he was keenly engaged in politics, staying well-informed on current events and often participating in lively political discussions with friends and colleagues.
Those who knew Dr. Bright will fondly remember his quick wit and infectious smile, which could light up any room. His charm and warmth made him a beloved figure among patients and colleagues alike. Dr. Bright's professionalism was unparalleled; he approached his medical practice with a perfect blend of expertise and compassion, earning the respect and trust of everyone he encountered.
Dr. Bright is survived by his loving parents, William T. and Thelma B. Bright; his brother Steven T. Bright (his wife Penny); and his cherished niece and nephew, Olivia and Max. He was deeply devoted to his family, enjoying gatherings with steamed crabs and lively conversation. A devout Christian, Dr. Bright found joy in visiting his parents and their beloved cats, who adored him in return.
He will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, faith, and community service, as well as his passionate pursuit of knowledge in various fields, from medicine to meteorology and politics. Dr. Bright's legacy as a pioneering young professional, dedicated physician, and multifaceted individual will continue to inspire those who knew him. His wit, charm, and professionalism, combined with his infectious smile, left an indelible mark on all whose lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 25 at 1 pm in the Galena Funeral Home of Stephen L. Schaech, 118 W. Cross St. Galena, MD.
