Frederick Alden Obituary

Frederick Alonzo Alden III, 95, died October 17, 2024 at Franklin Square Hospital Hospice.

He was the son of the late Frederick A. Alden, II and Edna Edwards Alden. He was born on November 23, 1928 in Stowe, Ohio and was raised in New Jersey.

Mr. Alden was very proud of his attending the US Naval Academy. Some classmates included the future Chairman of the Navy and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Carl Trost and Ross Perot. Lt. Alden graduated 17th in a class of over 900 and became very successful in business, personifying an American success story. While attending the USNA he met his future wife Mary Murray and were wed on his graduation day June 5, 1953. He was immediately commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant into the United States Air Force. His active service was for 3 years until returning to Mary's hometown of Baltimore. Mr. Alden was employed by Black and Decker Corp. for many years until purchasing National Sash Weight Co. and creating, owning and operating Metal Processing Corporation.

They raised their family on their beloved "Deerfield" property in Kentmore Park, Kennedyville, where he became an active member of St. Dennis Catholic Church, The Chester River Yacht and Country Club and the Kentmore Park Improvement Association.

He enjoyed tennis, sailing and golf and trips to Hilton Head. Fred loved to cruise with friends on his old beloved 30' SeaRay, TINABLE2".

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Murray Alden, a son Mark M. Alden and a sister Elaine.

He is survived by two children, William A. Alden of Baltimore and Jennifer J. Alden (Thomas W. Hornsby, Sr.) of Fruitland, MD and several grandchildren and nieces.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Friday, October 25 in St. Dennis Church, Galena, MD. Interment will follow in Galena Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Dennis Church "Restoration Fund" P.O. Box 249, Galena, MD. 21635.
