Lillian Mitchell Obituary
She was born in Wilmington, DE on June 3, 1927, the daughter of the late Alfred Wardle and Nellie (Regan) Wardle. During her high school years, the family lived in California, where Lillian attended West Hollywood High School. After her school years, she moved back to the East Coast, eventually landing in Rock Hall, MD, where she lived for over 50 years. On July 26, 1958, she married the late Boss Mitchell, Jr. and the couple traveled for many years while Boss served in the United States Air Force. After he retired due to illness, they settled back in Rock Hall.
Lillian worked as a nurse at various facilities as well as home health care over her career. She was a person who dedicated her life to others, whether it was in her nursing work, her friends, or her beloved children (and often, their friends too). Her door was always open and she always had an extra plate of dinner for anyone who wanted or needed it. She loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. She did lots of work in her community of Rock Hall through the Rock Hall Methodist Church and was also involved in the Rock Hall American Legion Post #228.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Boss Mitchell, Jr., in 1966; her life partner, William Bernard "Hank" Heinefield, Sr.; as well as many aunts and uncles.
She is survived by her children: Randolph "Randy" Mitchell (Joan) and Robert Mitchell (Michelle); grandchildren: Brandon Mitchell, Regan Mitchell, Jadée Mitchell (William Hornbaker), Patricia Mitchell, Heather Smith (Eric), and Emily Martin (Anthony); great-grandchildren: Brayden Mitchell, Alexis Mitchell, Skyler Mitchell, Aidan Boyles, Brantley Boyles, Noah Boyles, Ashlyn Boyles, Chassidy Boyles and Boston James Hornbaker.
Services will be held on Thursday, November 6 at 12:00 pm at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home in Chestertown. A visitation will be
held one hour prior, from 11:00 am - 12:00 pm at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
