William Bartus Collyer of Rock Hall, MD passed away at his home on August 13, 2021. He was 93.

Mr. Collyer was born on July 23, 1928 in Rock Hall, the son of the late Samuel and Gladys Collyer. He began working at a young age with his father on the water and then went on to serve in the U.S. Army. Upon his honorable discharge in 1952, he began his career as a lifelong waterman.

On September 12, 1953, he married Mrs. Faye VanSant, who preceded him in death in 2008.

Mr. Collyer was a famously hard worker and continued working until he was 90 - and probably would still be out working on the water if he was able. He enjoyed playing pool, gearing nets, making crab pots, shooting trap, hunting, and his work as a waterman.

He was a member of the Maryland & Kent County Waterman's Association, Rock Hall United Methodist Church, Chester Lodge #115 AF & AM, Boumi Temple, Sgt. Preston Ashley American Legion Post #228, and he was a past chairman for the Public Landings Committee of Kent County.

He is survived by his three sons: Donald B. "Barty" Collyer, Jeffrey S. Collyer, and Eric B. Collyer; his sister, Beverly Ashley; three grandchildren, Amy Collyer-Cox, Samantha Collyer, and Elizabeth Collyer; and one great-grandchild, Rosie Cox.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021 at 12:00 noon at Fellows, Helfenbein, and Newnam Funeral Home 130 Speer Road Chestertown where relatives and friends may call from 10:00am to 12:00pm. Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
