Christine Dyer Obituary

STEVENSVILLE - Christine W. Dyer of Stevensville, MD, and previously of Millersville and Bethesda, MD, passed away June 17, 2017 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore on her 71st birthday from a heart attack she suffered the day before.
The daughter of the late Charles K. West Jr. and Christine Heartfield West, she was born in Washington, DC on June 17, 1946. She grew up in Bethesda, MD, and graduated from the Hannah Moore Academy Episcopal School in Reisterstown, MD, and attended Garland Junior College in Boston, MA. She was a secretary for the Marriot Corporation in Bethesda, TRACOR, Inc in Rockville, MD, and a legal secretary for Carr, Bonner, O'Conner, Kaplan & Dugid, Washington, DC. She also worked in the Marketing Department of the Washington Wizards Soccer Team at the Capital Centre in Landover, MD, before becoming a stay at home Mom.
Chris was a former member of the Junior League of Annapolis. She was the editor of the "CRUISE NEWS" and a Board Member of the Chesapeake Bay Power Boat Association. An avid Washington Capitals Hockey fan she was also active in the Chesapeake Bay Chiefs Youth Hockey program in Severna Park as a Team Mom, Board Member, and Team Representative to the Capital Beltway Hockey League.
She was a loved mother, wife, sister, cousin, godmother and more. We find comfort that she is now with her son, Chad.
Affectionately called "Mama D" by her children's friends, she also enjoyed painting, photography, boating, powerboat racing and tracing her families' ancestry. But most of all, she was a loving Mom who put her family first.
She is predeceased by her parents; and her son, Charles Brooke (Chad) Dyer. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Ben Brooke Dyer; her daughter, Christine (Kenzie) Stodd and husband Brian Stodd; and sister Barbara West and her husband, Vertner Smith of Louisville, KY; and her beloved West Highland Terrier, "Piper".
Please join us to honor her beautiful life. Her wishes: Please do not wear black, we are celebrating her life on Wednesday, June 21, 6-8 p.m. at Fellows, Helfenbein, & Newnam Funeral Home, 106 Shamrock Road, Chester, MD and Thursday, June 22, 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 830 Romancoke Road, Stevensville, MD.
Burial will follow the service in St. Anne's Cemetery in Annapolis.

Christine was in my 6th grade class at Westbrooke Elementary School. She later on went to a private school, so I lost track of her. One day, when I was visiting my Maryland cousins (I had relocated to Oregon), I met her again. It turns out she was looking at our 6th grade picture and somehow realized I was in her class! I had no idea Brooke had married her until then. She was a very happy person. I only regret I did not get to know her better. Our prayers are with Brooke, Kenzie, and the other family members. I know she is at peace with our Heavenly Father and reuniting with her son, Chad.

Chris will remain in our hearts forever. We never spent time with her without sharing lots of laughs...along with a few tears. Her love for her family was what kept her strong, and we will always love her. We know she is at peace and will be looking down, along with Chad, watching over us all. We will miss her. With love, Tom and Jackie
