Philip Snyder Obituary

Philip Shell Snyder, 83, passed away peacefully after a short illness in Seaford Delaware on October 15, 2025. He was born in Knoxville, TN on December 3, 1941 to Maywood and Elizabeth Snyder, and spent his early childhood in Piney Flats, TN, a place he considered home for the rest of his life. Later he moved with his family to Richmond VA, where he graduated from Hermitage High School, and later the University of Richmond with a B.S in Chemistry. He was an Eagle Scout and later Scout Master, earning the nickname "Soggy Snyder" because he seemed to cause rain (and one memorable time, a hurricane) whenever he went camping. After graduating from the U of Richmond he obtained his PE certification, eventually working into the field of nuclear power safety, where he consulted and even guest lectured at MIT. He was a friend of Bill's for 38 years. In his adult life he was an avid hobbyist, and enjoyed sailing, woodworking, and restoring old Corvettes, winning ribbons in NCRS shows, and later becoming a show judge. After retiring, he served on the Planning Commission for Queenstown for fourteen years and was proud of the contributions he made there.

He is survived by a brother Thomas (Mildred), his son David (Susan), daughter Amy Snyder Hale (David) and grandchildren Gwendolyn Scott (Garrett), Nathanael Snyder, Rachel Hale, and longtime life partner Linda Nicholson of Centreville MD.

In lieu of flowers, his family asks you take a drive in your favorite car, or a sail on the Bay. No service is planned at this time.
