Scott Whye Obituary
Scott McKinley Whye, 56, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2024, in the tender care of Compass Hospice in Centreville, MD.
Scott was born on February 16, 1968, at Kent and Queen Anne's Hospital to the late Ralph and Joan (Wilmore) Whye. Scott was raised in Worton, MD in the community of Bigwoods.
At the age of ten, Scott began working for Edward McDowell and Weitemeyer Farms. Scott used his earnings to buy his own school clothes and shoes.
Scott graduated from Kent County High School in 1986. While in school he enrolled in masonry classes taught by Bob Gordon, who assured him "I will teach you a trade. A trade that will always allow you to work for yourself."
After graduating Scott received a masonry apprenticeship with Allen Tyler Company of Cambridge, MD. Scott was affectionately known as "Block Whye" or "McKinley." The nickname "Block Whye" was given because of his resemblance to his father.
Scott went on to work in many regional areas ranging from New Jersey to Virginia and throughout the MD/DC metro areas. He later went on to work for Diamond State Masonry in New Castle, DE. Scott's work was highly regarded, with many considering him the go-to person for fixing things at work. Due to his outstanding work ethic Scott was soon promoted to foreman. Scott served as foreman for three significant local projects: YMCA in Chestertown, MD, Animal Care Shelter in Worton, MD, and Queen Anne's County Circuit Courthouse in Centreville, MD. Scott worked at Diamond State Masonry for over 10 years, last working on September 8, 2022.
Scott married Pamela (Downes) on September 9, 2017, in Bigwoods, MD. Scott and Pamela shared a love for remodeling and flipping houses. That love led him to enroll in and graduate from Wor-Wic Community College's Construction Academy: Basic Construction I & II Course. Scott had plans to take the MHIC test prior to becoming ill. Scott accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at his home church, New Christian Chapel of Love (NCCOL) in Bigwoods, MD.
