Jacksonville - Carole J. Stewart, 79, of Jacksonville passed away Monday, Mar. 2, 2026, at St John's Hospital in Springfield. She was born Dec. 16, 1946, in White Hall, the daughter of Lloyd F. and Wilma D. Drummond Kelley. She married Harold E. McEvers, Dec. 20, 1963, and they later divorced. She then married Robert E. Stewart, Nov. 16, 1996, and he preceded her in death Nov. 17, 2022.
Surviving children are Tammy (Lance) Featherstone of Greenfield, Cathy (Aaron) Springman of Rockbridge, Steven (Jamie) McEvers of Greenfield and stepdaughter, Becky (Steve) Grim of Astoria; grandchildren, Ashley (Stephen) Kiesel, Philip (Alicia) Terpening, Seth (Sarah) Price, Joey Price, Conner McEvers, Delaney McEvers, Zackary Stewart and Madison (Michael) Anders; several great grandchildren and sisters, Virginia (Gene) Braswell of Manchester and Patti Jo Ridder of Roodhouse and niece, Kaci Ridder. She was preceded in death by her parents; stepson, William "Bill" Stewart and brother-in-law, George Ridder.
Carole retired from Walmart after working 30 plus years and loved every minute of it. She enjoyed diamond painting, yard working and most of all, spending time with her kids and grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, Mar. 9, 2026, at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Jacksonville with interment in Waverly East Cemetery. A visitation will be held Monday, 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
