Charles Soer Obituary
He was born May 9, 1924, in St. Louis, the son of Charles and Catherine Koerner Soer. He married Mariam Beatrice Garvelman on Nov. 27, 1948, in St. Louis, and she preceded him in death in 1993. He married Millie Porter Johnson on Nov. 25, 1994, in Beardstown.
Surviving is his wife, Millie of Beardstown; five sons, Robert Paul Soer (wife, Patricia) of Beardstown, Joseph John Soer (wife, Leisa) of Jerseyville, William Walter Soer (wife, Stephanie) of Annapolis, Md., Jeffrey Stephen Soer (wife, Joni) of Jerseyville and Craig Steven Soer (wife, Liane) of Gilbert, Ariz.; three daughters, Barbara Sue (Soer) Sudlow (husband, William) of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif., Mary Patricia (Soer) Martin (husband, Thomas) of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and Christine Marie (Soer) Bulva (husband, Thomas) of Virginia; one stepdaughter, Kay Hanks (husband, Tom) of Riverside, Calif.; 23 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Ethel Wuennenberg of St. Louis and Irene Fabschutz (husband, Simon) of Littleton, Colo. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mariam; and his son, David Charles Soer (surviving wife, Vicki of Beardstown).
Mr. Soer attended Hadley High School in St. Louis. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War from 1943 until 1952. He was a faithful member of the St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown, the BPO Elks 1007 where he served as Exalted Ruler, the Knights of Columbus where he served as a 4th Degree Knight, and the Guthrie-Pierce VFW Post 1239, all in Beardstown and the Arenzville American Legion. He served as president of Beardstown Chamber of Commerce in 1963 and served as a member of the Beardstown Hospital Board of Directors 1969-1977. Mr. Soer owned and operated Beardstown True Value until his retirement in 1983.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Alexius Catholic Church in Beardstown. Burial will be at St. Alexius Catholic Cemetery. The family will meet with friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Sager Funeral Home in Beardstown with a Rosary Service to be held at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests charitable donations be made to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice, Illinois Elks Children's Care, or Knights of Columbus Cemetery Fund.

We will miss Charlie and his wonderful sense of humor and wonderful smile. We will also miss not seeing him at "His special table"at the Elks. He always had that twinkle in his eye and something funny to say. We send our love to Millie and his family. May your wonderful memories help to heal your sadness.

My favorite memory of Charlie is playing poker with his family at their home in Beardstown.Charlie loved to play poker.My husband and I had a many great times with the Soer family.Charlie will be greatly missed.

I was just telling my son about the slot car tracks at Western Auto the other day. He didn't get it. I see this picture and that is the smile that I remember. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you.
