Dr. Ecker was my mentor at MacMurray College; I was both a Mathematics and Computer Science major. He always had faith in my abilities, and was instrumental in my first job as an Instructor at Illinois College. He definitely sculpted my personality to be more caring and desiring to teach others. His math proofs, and recovering from errors in real time, gave me knowledge and ability to determine how to fix something that hasn´t gone perfectly. Ed and I maintained contact for a good number of years even after I moved on from Jacksonville. I am eternally grateful for Dr. Ecker as my professor and my friend. Goodbye and be at peace with Betty back at your side, and my deepest sympathies for Lana and the rest of the Ecker family.

Dr. Ecker was my professor and mentor while I was at MacMurray. He encouraged me to attend graduate school and become a college mathematics professor. He was a major influence and I credit my decision to pursue that career to him. I remember seeing him at a meeting after I had been teaching at Bradley University for a number of years. He insisted that I call him "Ed" because we were now colleagues. That meant do much to me. Think you for everything, Ed. God bless.

I am sorry to hear of your loss. I did not experience Dr. Ecker's knowledge and calm demeanor as professor in the late 1970s, however, I was blessed with such as colleague from 1984-2001. I have many fond (?) memories of his assistance with 1999's PINE e-mail and Katy Third staff's one shared printer.

It was an honor to light candles with him at the College's Sesquicentennial Convocation. Dr. Ecker's induction into the Hall of Fame was a small tribute to the large impact he made as a Highlander.

Thank you for sharing him with us.

Ed was one of the nicest people I have ever known. He was so welcoming when I started working at MacMurray. He helped me through my first (very embarrassing) Internet search - and he had the patience of Job when teaching me about all kinds of computer software.

I enjoyed his sense of humor and admired his love for Betty and their family.

Wonderful man. I am so sorry for your loss.

Lana, we are so sorry about our father. We know the last years have been difficult. He was such a gentleman all the years we knew hm. His quiet laugh and manner are remembered. He was a great Rotary supporter. In addition to having served a president, he supported many fundraisers. We miss the Ed we used
to know. He missed Betty all the years since her death.Keith and Phyllis Lpe
