Virginia - Erma Mae Bulva, 90, of Virginia, IL, died Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.
She was born at home in Virginia on August 12, 1934, the daughter of James Elroy and Luetta O. (Votsmier) Scholes. Erma married Herman Lester Bulva on October 2, 1954, in Virginia. He preceded her in death on December 16, 2018.
She is survived by two sons, David Bulva and Thomas (Christine) Bulva, both of Virginia; two daughters, LuAnn (John) Jennings of Panama City, FL, and Nancy (Jeffery) Wilkinson of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; and eighteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and siblings, Kenneth, Delbert, and Ernie Scholes, Margaret DeGroot, and Helen Vieira.
Erma graduated from Virginia High School in 1952. She worked at Hertzberg New Method Inc in Jacksonville and provided in-home daycare to a couple families over the years in Virginia. She was a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and a Girl Scout Leader, when her children were involved in the Scouts. She was also a longtime member of St. Luke Catholic Church in Virginia. Erma loved to play games, especially BINGO, card games, jigsaw puzzles, and dominos. Most of all, she enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Erma's wishes were to be cremated. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, January 9, 2025, at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. Memorial donations are suggested to the Cass County Food Pantry. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be left online at buchanancody.com.
