Kevin Hunter Obituary

Kevin P. Hunter, 69, of Hettick died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

He was born April 9, 1948, in Peoria, the son of Charles Harold and Viola Suzanna Koehler Hunter.

He is survived by two daughters, Renee Fischer (fiancé, Greg Ebersohl) of Osburn, Idaho, and Michelle "Chelle" Keplinger (fiancé, Michael Kloep) of Rawlins, Wyoming; a grandson, Keagan Keplinger of Rawlins; three siblings, the Rev. Alan Hunter of Greenville, Coletta Burns (husband, Robert) of Holts Summit, Missouri, and Donna Sturm of Springfield; nine nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and -nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Robin, in infancy; and two siblings, Jack and Adrian Hunter.

Kevin was raised in Jacksonville, graduating from Our Saviour Grade School and Routt Catholic High School before attending Illinois College. He was employed for many years as a meat cutter for A & P Grocery Stores throughout central Illinois and later with County Market in Taylorville.

Kevin was devoted to improving his home community of Hettick and was serving at the time of his death as the town's mayor. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Greenfield. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, cruise travel with his family, and rooting for the St. Louis Cardinals. He maintained a special passion for his community and his faith. Among his favorite pastimes was fishing with Traeger, Braylon, Coulter and Keagan. This brought him endless love, joy and entertainment.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2018, at Church of Our Saviour in Jacksonville with the Rev. Alan Hunter officiating. The family will meet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, where a prayer service will be held at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. Following services, cremation will be accorded with a private family committal on Friday, Feb. 2, 2018, at Calvary Cemetery in Jacksonville. My heart is saddened with Uncle Kevin's passing. It seems so unreal. I have many memories that I will treasure. He always reminded me so much of my dad with his sense of humor and personality...they were a lot alike. I always enjoyed my time and conversations with him. I pray that you find peace and comfort in your memories and in knowing that Uncle Kevin was welcomed by his family. I know he, Dad, and Uncle Adrian had a joyous, back slapping reunion. God bless. Please let me know if there is anything at all that I can do. I love you.

Renee, Chelle, Keagan -- I am sad to hear of Kevin's passing. I have always had great memories of visits to see your family and staying at your house on the occasions we were able to make that journey. I have also always cherished the opportunity to see any of my Dad's brothers and sisters after his passing. I will dearly miss the loss of one more opportunity to have that connection. I hope there is comfort for you in knowing that after all Kevin had endured he will now be at peace and in the company of a wonderful family. Please do not hesitate to call on us if there is anything we can help with. Wish we could be there. God Bless.

Kevin was always ready to lend a helping hand when needed. We always offered to be there for him, too. He had a lot of friends and family that loved and supported him. He loved working in his yard and hanging with the neighbor kids and grandson at his pond fishing or feeding the catfish. My great nephew used to go down occasionally as well to feed the catfish. He was also a good friend to my mother before she passed. Over the years he's been a wonderful neighbor and friend. We will miss him.

Kevin was a huge part of my daughters family. My grandsons loved him so much and will miss him terribly. I am thankful for all the time they had with him and for all the things he taught them. They couldn't of had a more caring and kind neighbor.
