Jacksonville - Leona Mae Werries, 86, of Jacksonville, IL, died Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 9, 1935, in Jacksonville, the daughter of Jesse Arthur and Ethel Lydia DeArmond Baldwin. She married Donald Werries on Dec. 31, 1953, in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 2008.
She is survived by two sons, Mark (Susan) Werries of Gillette, Wyoming, and Charles "Chuck" (Lisa) Werries of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Matthew Werries, Jared Werries, Jessica Werries (Dustin) Kavitz, and Kelsy Werries (Andrew) Lempka; six great grandchildren; three step grandchildren, Adam (Robin McKinley) Schnake, Cara (Kyle) Crain, and Brenna (Daniel McQuillen) Schnake; five step great grandchildren, and special friends Mike and Pat Mussatto. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one grandson, Garett Werries; one sister and her husband, Louise Baldwin and John Hicks; and one brother and his wife, Raymond H. and Nina Baldwin.
Mrs. Werries had been a member of First Baptist Church since 1947. She had been employed by Central Laborers Pension, retiring after 27 years.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2022, at First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, with burial at Jacksonville Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church.
