Max Edlen Obituary
Bluffs - Max L. Edlen, 85, of Bluffs passed away Friday, Oct. 15, 2021, at Illini Hospital in Pittsfield. He was born, June 18, 1936, in Bluffs, the son of Max and Margaret Brockhouse Edlen. He married Peggy J. Likes and with this union they had two sons, John and Steve. He later married Bonny J. Bangert, Oct. 16, 1989. She preceded him in death, Jul. 21, 2020.
Surviving is son, John (Penny) Edlen of Bluffs; stepdaughter, Becky Carter Naccarato of Winchester; daughter-in-law, Diana Edlen of Columbia, MO; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by son, Steve Edlen and grandson, Joshua Edlen.
Max was a member of St John's Lutheran church and also attended the Bluffs Methodist Church and Baptist Church. He was a firm believer and loved the Lord. Max taught grade school in Chapin and was a teacher and football coach at Waverly High School. He was then employed as a construction superintendent for Freesen Inc. until retirement. Max was involved in numerous community committees and served as a board member. Two significant board member positions Max held were of the Illinois Port Authority appointed by Gov. Jim Edgar and MidAmerica Intermodal Port Authority appointed by Gov. George Ryan. He was a former mayor of Bluffs and a Scott County Commissioner.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Bluffs with interment in Hillcrest Cemetery. A visitation will be held Saturday, 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Meredosia/Bluffs Rescue Squad or donor's choice. I was related to Max thru his mother and we went all the way thru bluffs school together. I have a lot of good memories especially playing sports. May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief.

Mr. Edlen was a teacher of mine at Waverly High School. He was an awesome teacher and great man. He will be missed. I was an alumni cheerleader, when they ask him to coach. Fun memories

HeyJohn, So sorry about your Dad´s passing. Lot of fine memories came of him. An important and impressive Teacher to me, ever a fine man, and of course bringing the friendship of you boys to the bunch of us. Been a lot of time pass, but all that good that came of him, has stayed with me. I remain blessed with the memories that each of you brought to my younger days, and I sure wish you best during this thoughtful time. I pray the blessings of our Lord be upon your entire well grown family.
