Jacksonville - Naomi N. Wright, 88, of Jacksonville, IL died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2021, at Heritage Health in Springfield.
She was born July 10, 1933, in Scott County, the daughter of Ernest and Ethel Killebrew Newingham. She married Harold E. Wright on Apr. 11, 1954, in Alexander and he preceded her in death on May 21, 1999.
She is survived by one daughter, Barbara (Troy) York of Paducah, KY; two grandchildren, Kelsy York of Paducah, KY, and Kyler (Katie) York of Crestwood, KY; one great grandson, Cole York; and one brother, Bernard (Jo) Newingham of Peoria. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Debra Lynn Wright; one son in infancy, Steven Eugene Wright; and two brothers and one sister, Lyndell Newingham, Nadine Arnold, and Carroll Newingham.
Mrs. Wright was a 1951 graduate of Franklin (IL) High School. She had worked as an Instructional Assistant for the Graham School in Jacksonville for many years. She was a member of Central Christian Church. Along with her husband, Naomi helped found Camp Courage and they were active in the Special Olympics. She loved spending time with family, was very social, and enjoyed reading.
A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021, at Diamond Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Camp Courage. The Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be left at buchanancody.com.

Naomi spent her life taking care of those she loved. She was instrumental in securing services for individuals with special needs. She was a valued friend and will be missed.
