Mary Cole Smith

Mary Cole Smith, 85, passed away peacefully at Moses Cones Hospital on Friday, September 19th 2025. Mary was born in Seagrove December 8, 1939, to Carlie and Mary Estelle Auman Cole and was a graduate of Seagrove High School.

Mary had a sweet and gentle soul that always put the happiness of others before her own. She showed kindness through her warm presence and meals she lovingly prepared. Everything she did reflected how deeply she valued her family and friends. Throughout her 40 years in dental care, she cherished the friendships she made at work, many of which became family to her.

Mary is survived by her two daughters, Amy Lax of Archdale, and Sheila Embler (Dean) of Carolina Beach. Grandchildren Chad Bazen (Amber), Lindsey Buchser (John), Brittany Lax, and Zach Lax. Great Granddaughter Emma Bazen. God- Granddaughters: Brooke Splawn, Harley Nemeth, and Sophia Dickens and many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her husband Arnold P. Smith, siblings Erving Cole, Huston Cole, Ferman Cole, Pearle Moffitt Murray, Thelma Sellers, sons-in-law Leonard Bazen and Steve Lax.

The family will receive friends at Center Cross Baptist Church 1789 Center Cross Church Rd, Asheboro, from 1:00pm to 1:45pm. Funeral service to follow with burial on church grounds.
