Jacksonville - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Kent Gebhardt.
Rich was born March 18, 1961, the son of Kent and Gussie Moore Gebhardt.
He married Michele Wilson on August 8, 2009, in Virginia, and she survives Rich first asked Michele out the summer she turned 16, a small moment in time that neither could have guessed would one day become the beginning of their love story.
Though life led them down separate paths for many years, but always remained friends, they were given another chance- a chance they embraced whole-heartedly.
Well-known in the automotive industry, Rich built nearly 550 hot rods. Many drivers relied on Rich's expertise and knowledge in fine-tuning their cars.
Prior to working on his own, Rich worked for many years with Jack's Auto Clinic. He had a love for anything that went fast, including drag cars and Indian motorcycles.
He was known for his mathematical mind, love of classic rock and bicycles, and enjoying Saturday visits with special friends. Rich was a member of the Jacksonville Elks, NHRA, and IHRA.
He will be remembered for his kindness and thoughtfulness.
In addition to Michele, Rich is survived by his children, Denise (Ryan), Greg (Kelsey), Bradley (Kirstin), Cassie, and Addie (Kip), nine grandchildren, and his sisters Barbara (Jimmy) and Debbie.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, John (surviving Carolyn), George (surviving Alberta), and Alfred (surviving Barb).
A private service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to PAWS.
The Williamson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
