Rodney Sturgeon Obituary

Rodney Allen "Rod" Sturgeon
Rodney Allen "Rod" Sturgeon, 64 of Alsey, passed away Tuesday evening February 17, 2026 in Jacksonville. He was born April 3, 1961 in White Hall the son of Charles and Peggy Gibbs Sturgeon. He married Connie Sue Fryman August 21, 1983 in Alsey. Rod was a 1979 graduate of Winchester High School and then Illinois College with his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. He worked for many years for Illinois Road Contractors and then Dickie John. He served many terms as Mayor of Alsey, was a member of the Noon Kiwanis Club in Jacksonville and several years as Executive Director of the Jacksonville Symphony. He was a member of the Barrow Baptist Church where he played the organ. His love of music was beyond measure and also enjoyed reading, and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Sue at home; daughter, Jessi Rueter-Brown (Latin Ingram) of Alsey; grandchildren, Drake, Gianna, and Jamie Bird; his mother, Peggy Sturgeon-Clemons of Alsey; and sister, Bronya Sanders of Alsey along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was his father, Charles, sister Birdie and son, Toby.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday February 23, 2026 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Alsey Baptist Church. Private family committal will be held in Bowers Cemetery. Memorials can be made to his family.
