Susan Hall Obituary

Susan Jane Canty Hall
Jacksonville - Susan Jane Canty Hall, 71, of Jacksonville, Illinois, peacefully passed away on March 27, 2024.
Born on July 25, 1952, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Susan was the daughter of Joanne and Roy Canty and spent her childhood in Algonquin, Illinois. She is survived by her daughters, Johnna Hall and Jennifer (Jeremy) Gay, son Evan (Laurel) Hall, brother David (Kathryn) Canty, and sister Erin Rednour.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Jaxon Cook, Oliver, Helena, and Harrison Gay, and Naomi, Frances, and Charlotte Hall. Susan was preceded in death by her mother, Joanne Canty, and sister, Mandy Jolitz.
Susan earned both a Bachelor and a Master of Science degree in Education from Illinois State University. With a career spanning 50 years, she passionately taught all levels of education and served as a guiding influence at both ISVI and ISD. Later in her career, Susan worked as a Vocational Supervisor, assisting her students in finding career placements within the
Jacksonville community.
An avid lover of the outdoors, Susan enjoyed hiking, camping, and gardening. She also found joy in baking, watching and participating in the arts, and learning about history. A passionate animal lover, Susan also cherished her time spent traveling the world with family and friends.
Actively engaged in her community, Susan dedicated approximately five decades to teaching fitness classes at the YMCA. Some of her class attendees remained by her side for more than 30-40 years, forming lifelong friendships that Susan treasured dearly.
During her children's upbringing, Susan embraced Catholicism, and spirituality became an integral part of her life. She found solace and formed meaningful connections with fellow members of her prayer group. Susan and her family practiced their faith at Our Saviour Parish.
Above all, Susan cherished her family and holiday traditions. She loved engaging in all activities and sporting events with her children and grandchildren. She also shared her love for the arts, birdwatching, and outdoor exploration, guiding them through adventures in national parks and fostering their appreciation for nature.
In honor of Susan's memory, a memorial will be set up through the American Cancer Society, and the local YMCA. Contributions to these organizations will serve as a lasting tribute to Susan's legacy of compassion and resilience.
A prayer service will commence at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on April 5, 2024, at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville, IL. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life at Susan's home, 930 West State, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., featuring food, spirits, fun, and laughs. I had the pleasure of working with Mrs. Hall at ISVI as a student. I will always treasure the times we had together. I will always remember the numerous jokes she would make whenever I'd enter the classroom that she was in. She always had such a great sense of humor and made anyone and everyone laugh that walked by her classroom.
