Anne Cartwright Obituary
Anne Sullivan Kirby Cartwright, 79, of Alstead, NH, passed away at home with family by her side on August 19, 2025. Anne was born to the late Charles and Leone (Jarvis) Kirby on February 4, 1946 in Providence, RI. Anne, that's Anne with an E, fondly known as Mom and Mimere, will be remembered as a loving wife and mother who provided unwavering support to her family. Anne was an intellectual woman with wide-ranging interests, from nutrition and architecture to politics. She immersed herself in books throughout her life. Most of her childhood was spent in Tyngsborough, MA; she was a cheerleader at Lowell High School and enjoyed drama acting in several plays. Anne married Joseph Cartwright in 1965. They had the opportunity to live in Louisiana, Oklahoma, Lubbock, TX and Tacoma, WA while Joe served in the Air Force. They chose to settle back in New England. From 1979 to 1990, Anne coached cross country running, skiing, and track teams-dedicating countless hours both on and off the trail, studying coaching methods and taking great pride in sharing her knowledge. Anne's love for animals led to a small farm during their time in New Ipswich. Starting with beloved Cocoa, she bred a wonderful lineage of chocolate labradors and enjoyed walking the dogs through the fields and woods. Anne contributed to the communities she lived in by leading the Tyngsborough bicentennial celebration, singing in the Sacred Heart church choir, and serving in the New Hampshire House of Representatives from 2010-2012. Anne also found joy in creating-sewing pajamas and dresses for her grandchildren, canning the harvest from the garden, and helping Joe build their beautiful stone walls. We will miss her. Anne was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Leone (Jarvis) Kirby, by her sister Elaine P. Kirby, and by her brothers, Thomas J. Kirby and Robert L. Kirby. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Joseph Cartwright, and their children: Lora Lee and Paul Sarza, Bret and Kristin Cartwright, Natalie Cartwright and Allan Serrano, Emily Cartwright and Mark Harvey, Ian Cartwright. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Brittany Sarza, Stephanie Sarza, Abigail Cartwright, Christopher Cartwright, Jonathan Cartwright, Isabelle Serrano, Olivia Serrano, Claire Serrano, Leif Harvey, Sylvia Harvey, and Tait Harvey.
