Larry Woodworth Obituary

Larry W. "Woody" Woodworth 81, of Keene, NH and formerly of Rowayton, CT, passed away on October 13, 2024, in Keene, NH. Woody was born in Milo, ME on October 21, 1942, the son of Preston and Beryl (Ellison) Woodworth, and was raised on the family farm in Littleton, ME. He graduated from Ricker Classical Institute in Houlton, ME in 1960. He later attended the University of Maine in Orono, graduating in 1964 with a Bachelor Degree in Science, and was a member of Phi Eta Kappa fraternity. After graduation, he enlisted in the Navy serving from 1964-1969, where he received training as a pilot. He was stationed in Iceland, Brunswick Naval Air Station, in Brunswick, ME, and many other places around the world, flying P3 Orion aircrafts. After leaving the Navy, Woody flew private Lear jets for Paul Newman, Walter Cronkite, Fleetwood Mac and other notable people. He then flew for United Airlines for 33 years, retiring in 2002 as a Captain. Woody lived in Rowayton, Connecticut for most of his life, where he was active in the Rowayton United Methodist Church, and loved playing the role of Santa Claus each year during town festivities. He was always a joker, a storyteller, and the life of the party. He enjoyed traveling the world, heli-skiing, golfing, watching Michael's softball games, and his most cherished role as a grandfather. In 2022, he and Andrea moved to Keene, NH to be closer to family. Woody is survived by his wife of 46 years, Andrea (Jokisch) Woodworth; his son Michael; his granddaughters Elliot Rose and Emmett Sharron Michele Woodworth; sisters Carolyn Jordan (Duncan) of Clifton, ME, Debra Atwood (Randal) of Hampden, ME; sister-in-law, Tera Rae Jokisch of Ashland, IL; nieces and nephews Jennifer Cammack (Gary), James Jordan (Kimberly), Ashley Megquier (Aaron), Joshua Atwood (Nicole), Todd Jokisch, Teresa Armstrong (Michael), and Renee Jokisch (Heather); and many great nieces and nephews, cousins, beloved friends and neighbors in Rowayton, Connecticut and all around the globe. His father-in-law and mother-in-law, Newell "Bud" and Joanna Jokisch, and a brother-in-law Louis Jokisch from Ashland, IL, predeceased him. Fly high, Captain Woodworth. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday evening, October 24, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00PM at the Fletcher Funeral Home, 33 Marlboro Street, Keene, NH. A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 25th at 11:30 am in the First Baptist Church, 105 Maple Avenue, Keene. Burial with committal prayers and military honors will follow the service in the Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue, Keene. Dearest Andrea and Michael:
What can anyone say? The caprice of life.
Woody, will never be forgotten because of his whimsical, funny way to reach out to all. I will always remember how he.."Santa Clause"knocked on my door to give me some holiday cheer because he knew I was alone for the holiday.
Heaven is a better and brighter place because of you, dear friend. God bless you.

Dear Andrea: Rowayton loved Woody even more than he loved Rowayton. We have really missed him. I miss his unparalleled sense of humor among many of his attributes, but am so happy he lived to see his grandchildren and be close to them, and happy to know you are with Michael´s family. With love and sympathy. Joan Diamandis
