Malcolm A. Luz, 75, of Keene, NH, died at his home in Keene on October 18, 2024. He was born in Perth Amboy, NJ, on May 8, 1949, the son of Robert A. Luz, Jr. and Ruth M. (Wilson) Luz, and grew up in Lansdale, PA.
He attended the Wentworth Institute in Boston, MA, graduating with an Associate Degree in Aeronautical & Space Engineering Technology. He then attended Wentworth College of Technology, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
It was while attending school in Boston that he met his lifelong partner, Joan L. Vigneault. The couple married on August 19, 1972. After college, they moved to Keene.
Malcolm worked for Kingsbury Corporation as a mechanical engineer for 29 years.
Mal and Joan raised their two children, Jennifer and Jessica, in Keene. Everyone who knew Mal knew how much he loved sailing. He even built his own sailboat with his father when he was a teenager. He named the sailboat "Lil Ruth" after his late mother who died when he was just 14.
Mal looked forward to annual vacations to Cape Cod with his family where he and his father would sail from Orleans Town Cove to Nauset Beach.
Living in Southern NH meant taking advantage of sailing on the many lakes in the area, including favorites like Spofford Lake, Swanzy Lake, and Surry Dam.
Mal was an active member of St. Margaret Mary Church in Keene where he sang in the choir and participated in the Knights of Columbus for as long as his body would allow.
Though he loved these things, a favorite role was as Papa to his one and only grandchild, Katelyn. They treasured their time together, especially with family trips to Wells, Maine over many summers.
We will always remember him playing the Blues Harp (don't you dare call it a harmonica) and in quieter moments, "resting his eyes". We could not have asked for a more kind, loving, and gentle man as a husband, father, and grandfather. We will miss him every day.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan L. Luz of Keene; his daughters, Jennifer R. Brooks and her husband, Michael, of Sullivan, NH, Jessica K. Luz of Keene; granddaughter, Katelyn A. Brooks of Sullivan; his brothers, Robert T. Luz and his wife, Michele, of Milford, NH, David W. Luz and his wife, Joanne, of Pennsburg, PA; several nieces and nephews; and many extended family members. A sister, Margaret E. Luz; his stepmothers, Ada L. (Kriebel) Luz and Elizabeth (Smith) Luz, predeceased him.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 10:30am in St. Margaret Mary Church, 33 Arch Street, Keene, NH. There are no public calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations may be made in Mr. Luz's memory to
The Parkinson's Foundation (Parkinson.org), 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY 10018.
