Hinsdale - Rosealie D. Howe, 84, a lifetime resident of Plain Road in Hinsdale, passed peacefully, after a brief illness, surrounded by family, early morning Friday, July 25, 2025, in her home.
Rosealie was born in her family's home in Hinsdale, NH on June 10, 1941, the daughter of Walter and Delia Dascomb (Archambeault). She was raised and educated in Hinsdale, where her class was the last to graduate from the old Hinsdale High School in 1960. She went on to earn a certificate as an L.P.N from the Thompson House School of Nursing.
Throughout her career in nursing, she was employed by Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, where she began as a Candy Striper in her teens. Later working at physicians' offices (Dr. John Trumper, Dr. Robert Nassau & Dr. Anne Haydock of Brattleboro Pediatrics, Dr. Clifford Langweiler, and Dr. Martina Sczesny). Briefly working for Vernon Green Nursing Home, Holton Home, and Vermont Home Health Care, where she met a wonderful family, the Robb's. She adored all the patients she attended to and enjoyed all the patients of the doctors, at the physicians' offices where she was employed.
Rosealie was the first to arrive at any event and enjoyed being surrounded by family. She loved to sit on her porch watching the birds. Rosealie was an avid soccer fan, bowler, and enjoyed reading and crocheting in her free time. Growing up in North Hinsdale, she grew her love for cows through tending to the neighboring farms, as she often explained they are the kindest animals. She traveled all over in her later years, exploring the United States with her friends, the "Red Hats" to enjoy theater productions. Rosealie was a woman you could count on to always lend a hand when in need.
Rosealie married Phillip Howe at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on June 11, 1965; they were married for forty-two years.
Survivors include brother, Walter Dascomb of Hinsdale and sister, Gail McGirr of Newport; and children, Elaine Midgett (Brent) of Rodanthe, N.C., Dwight Howe of Hinsdale, and Kathryn Lynch (Leonard) of Hinsdale. Rosealie has seven grandchildren, Peter Howe (Lori), Theresa King, Jon Howe, Dwight Howe, Samantha Labby (Dennis) and Hannah Lynch. She also has five great-grandchildren, Ryker Skilling, Willow Skilling, Ava Howe, Waylynn Skilling, and Rylee Labby. Rosealie had many loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and great nephews.
Rosealie was predeceased by a brother, Mark Dascomb, a sister, Bonnie Denyou, a daughter-in-law, Beverly Howe, and a granddaughter, Ashley King.
Friends, family, and neighbors are invited to share memories during calling hours at Atamaniuk Funeral Home at 40 Terrace Street in Brattleboro on Thursday, July 31st from 4-6 p.m.
Graveside Committal Services will be conducted on Friday, August 1st at 11:00 A.M. in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Hinsdale. A reception to follow will be held at the Millstream Community Center in Hinsdale.
