Early Junior "E.J." Grimsley
STATE ROAD — Mr. Early Junior "E.J." Grimsley, 80, passed away April 27, 2016.
Mr. Grimsley was born March 5, 1936, in Robeson County to Early Sr. and Olie Ivey Grimsley.
Mr. Grimsley was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean Conflict from 1954-1956, after which he attended Pfeiffer University, where he met his wife, Carole, of 55 years. E.J. retired from Suburban Propane after a long career. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, serving as a deacon, as well as a member of the Baptist Men. E.J. enjoyed membership in the Elkin Masonic Lodge No. 454, Winston-Salem Street ROD Association and was a certified master gardner.
Survivors include his wife, Carole M. Grimsley of the home; his son, Edward Jonathan "Eddy" Grimsley and wife Marrianne of State Road; a daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Grimsley Hemric and husband Chris of Jonesville; his sister, Patricia Grimsley Bryant of Fairmont, N.C.; and his grandchildren, Steven Christopher Hemric and Evelyn Elizabeth "Evey" Grimsley.
A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2016, at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, the Rev. John Attaway and Elkin Masonic Lodge No. 454 officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
The family requests memorials be made to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 109 Mount Pleasant Church Road, State Road, N.C., 28676, or Gentiva Hospice, 905 Cherry Street, 10 North, Wilkesboro, N.C., 28659.
