Dewey Hutcherson Obituary

Dewey 'Hutch' Hutcherson Dewey Hutcherson, 70, known by friends and family as "Hutch," passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at Harvest Christian Fellowship with Pastor Brad Snellgrove officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lemons Funeral Home of Plainview. Dewey Leon Hutcherson was born June 30, 1941, to Frank and Beulah Tucker Hutcherson in Amarillo. He married Linda Kay Henderson on Dec. 26, 1967, in Denver City. Dewey honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era as a member of the 82nd Airborne Special Forces Division. After serving his country, he attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in industrial arts. Dewey then went on to be the industrial arts teacher at Canyon High School for many years. Dewey was very proud to serve as a volunteer firefighter and as a reserve jailer. He worked as a park ranger at Palo Duro State Park until his retirement. Dewey was a Mason as well as a Shriner. He also was active in the Lions Club and a member of Harvest Christian Fellowship. His hobbies were fishing and cooking, and he was a skilled silversmith. Dewey was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Shawn McKibben. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Dr. Linda Hutcherson of Plainview; his sons, Dewey Hutcherson II and his wife, Rhonda, of Dumas, Tracy Hutcherson of Raleigh, N.C., George Hutcherson and his wife, Malorie, of Amarillo, Joshua Hutcherson and his wife, Des, of Canyon; his daughters, Dendee Walker and her husband, Mark, of Canyon, Lora Hunter and her husband, Larry, of Canyon; his sister, Betty Tenorio and her husband, Jerry, of Amarillo; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Hutcherson's name may be made to the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund, P.O. Box 3968, Gaithersburg, MD 20885-3968.
