Gary Dennis Belshaw

1949 - 2023

Gary Dennis Belshaw, 74, passed away Monday, April 10, 2023. A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 3, 2023 at 1 PM at the Harral Memorial Auditorium at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, TX. Cremation Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview, Texas. Gary was born to Wally and Virginia Belshaw on March 17, 1949 in Camp Springs, Maryland. Dr. Belshaw graduated from Texas Tech University in 2000 and began a career at Wayland Baptist University. For 15 years, he taught, performed, and generally led his students to work toward the best that they could be in whatever musical field in which they were interested. He attended College Heights Baptist Church with his wife and enjoyed the fellowship and teaching there. For several years he was their pianist, sometimes providing a slightly more modern rendition of the old hymns. He is at peace in the presence of his Lord and Savior and probably playing the biggest organ he can find. He is survived by his wife of 48 years Reneé Belshaw of Plainview; one daughter Bethany Rinecke and husband Chris of Crum, TX; two sons, Benjamin Belshaw of Lufkin, TX and Micah Belshaw of Bellingham, WA; five grandchildren, Caitlan Cornell and husband Matthew, Juliana Reinecke, Alexander Reinecke, Laighton Belshaw and Hayden Belshaw; two sisters, Sue Belshaw of Florida and Barbara Belshaw of Virginia. Memorials in honor of Gary may be made to the Wayland Friends of the Arts to Establish the Gary D. Belshaw Memorial Composition Studio where others will continue Gary's legacy of inspiring young artist.
