Jane Spain Obituary

Jane Spain OLTON - Jane Spain, 85, of Olton left this earth to be with her beloved husband on Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 2010, at First United Methodist Church in Olton with Brother Larry Holder officiating. Interment will follow in Olton Cemetery under the direction of Ramage Funeral Directors. Jane was born March 16, 1925, in Hale Center to David and Norma Wightman Bates. She married A.J. Spain, a handsome WWII veteran from Olton, June 18, 1947, in Hale Center. She and A.J. settled in Olton where Jane was a teacher for 22 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and active with the United Methodist Women. Jane cared deeply for others and had a servant's heart. She served as a board member for MHMR and was active for years with the American Cancer Society. She loved her community and enjoyed volunteering at Runningwater Draw Care Center where she also spent the twilight of her life. Jane was named Olton's Woman of the Year in 1992. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, A.J., who died in 2009, and two sisters, Jean Bates and Ann Lynskey. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Spain and his wife, Betty, of Lubbock and Stanley Spain and his wife, Lorenda, of Dumas; two daughters, Alanna Spain of Wylie and Jan Peters and her husband, Sandy, of Shallowater; one brother, David Bates of Austin; and two sisters, Elizabeth Barnett of Shallowater and Bobby Kerbo of Willis, Okla. Her beautiful blue eyes sparkled when she talked about her seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Memorials may be made to Runningwater Draw Care Center, P.O. Box 409, Olton, TX 79064, or First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 108, Olton, TX 79064.
